College football updated polls: AP Top 25, Coaches Poll rankings after Week 12

College football has played its final week of football before the College Football Playoff unveils its first set of rankings for 2020.

That raises the question: How similar will the AP Top 25 and Coaches Poll be to the CFP rankings released on Tuesday?

The top three Playoff teams, much like Sunday’s polls, will likely include Alabama (7-0), Notre Dame (8-0) and Ohio State (4-0). Alabama was dominant in a 63-3 win over Kentucky, while Notre Dame was out with a bye. Ohio State scored a top-10 win over Indiana, but the Buckeyes’ secondary was exposed as a potential weakness heading into the last stretch of the season.

It’s the No. 4 team that raises the most questions; will the committee go with 7-1 Clemson, like the Coaches Poll did? Or will it go with 6-1 Florida, 5-1 Texas A&M or surprise with 8-0 Cincinnati or 9-0 BYU? The Tigers were idle due to COVID-19 issues, forcing a postponement of its game against Florida State. Florida and Cincinnati won their games against Vanderbilt and UCF, respectively, but not by the margins either team would have liked. BYU smoked North Alabama 66-14, and the Aggies were idle due to COVID-19 issues as well.

Those are the biggest questions heading into Week 13 of the football season, but something else to monitor is the placement of 4-0 Northwestern, which beat 10th-ranked, previously unbeaten Wisconsin to take control of the Big Ten West race. The “Fighting Rece Davises” look to be the biggest threat to Ohio State in the Big Ten this year, but how will that be reflected in the CFP rankings?

It all promises to create quite the debate as the season progresses. With that, here are the updated top 25 teams from the AP and Coaches polls after Week 12 of the college football season:
